Weirdest place of SLO, that is the reason why this club rocks!

The Library is my favorite late night bar to go to, as long as they have a good crowd. They've got great music, lots of lights, and a small dance floor at the front - it's definitely a younger crowd. They have a lot of drink specials, especially 2-for-ones. The bartenders are nice also. Not much more you can say about a solid bar with a dance floor.

Why do people continue to give this place business? The bouncers are the WORST in town as are the "bartenders" who like to drink as they're working and I don't care if you work at a bar or not but being s***faced is such bad business and people should be wary before handing over money/cards. Plus the blatant racist tones that this place seems to think is appropriate that I've heard about from NUMEROUS people is also unsettling. Go to f&p, McCarthy's, Buffalo or SLO Brew.

Had to write an update. Now that all my girls are 21, this is our go-to spot for obvi reasons. I'm not trying to hate but really how can you drop down and get your eagle on to live folk music at Frog & Peach? Are you really trying to hit the Bernie to T. Swift at SLO Brew? And I mean fist pumping is cool and all at Motav but if you're really really reaaaally trying to flex... the Library is your spot.

This is the worst bar/club in San Luis Obispo. Everyone's creepy or shouldn't be the type of person going to downtown. I've never understood why there's ever a line out in front.

  • Brenda C.

Came here after ATV riding in the oceano dunes and we were still allowed inside, which means dress code is not enforced. Small venue, but the variety of music and drinks make up for it.

  • Dallas C.

If you love hip-hop music, this is definitely the club to be! Even though the place is small, the DJ's, alcohol & music make up for it. Definitely a college crowd/scene, so dance with caution. For those that are complaining, just make the best of it or get some drinks to loosen up. ;)

After coming from Mother's Tavern I was a bit disappointed. It was so cramped and the flow of everything was just terrible. Once you make your way to the bar to get a drink, it's impossible to go anywhere else. The building is extremely narrow so you really can't move around. Pros: Good music..(at least the night we went) and no cover. Cons: Crowded with a really poor design.

Oh Library, it's been way too long. The place sounds like our DTLA "Library bar" however, it's totally different atmosphere and everything else. I do not remember this place having music on repeat so many times.. Possibly new DJ or a bad night? The music and the crowd used to be poppin where all the students and adults would have a great time. It's one of the closest club/dance bars like the ones they would have in SF and LA, not sure no more. I had no complains with their drinks because they were good pours, however, the DJ was horrible that Saturday night. It's still a bit small inside, and if you're there on a crowded night, prepare for some squeezing between people and have drinks poured on you. Try to claim the tables on the side between anyone does. At least you and your friends will have a place to leave your jacket and a place to sit while someone goes getting drinks. If you want to dance and don't mind the squeezing into the dance floor, feel free to. You cannot miss the dance floor when you walk in, because it's just RIGHT there. Overall, this place is okay. I've bumped into mostly Bay area people and LA people saying that this is the closest club/bar they have in SLO. It's a hit or miss kind of deal here. Best part would be, there's no cover charge.

This is my absolutel favorite bar in all of Slo! The music isn't all electronica...like every single other bar in town. They have a very friendly staff and awesome bartenders who are knowledgeable and make amazing drinks! My favorite night to go is karaoke night on Wed nights, the KJ is awesome, he does a really good job reading the crowd and balancing when to have people sing, and when to play music for those who came to dance. Thank you Brotha C for being the best karaoke dj in the county!!!

    (5)
  • Kelley M.

The Library is so much fun especially on Wednesday nights! Every time I go I get nothing but amazing service from the staff. The bartenders are amazing and make great drinks! On Wednesday nights there is always so much fun on karaoke night with Brotha C he is amazing! He always makes sure that everyone that is there is happy whether they are there to dance or sing. My friends and I always have an amazing time singing and having fun when Brotha C is DJ,Thank you so much for being such an amazing DJ and the best Karaoke DJ I've ever met!

    (5)
  • Matt S.

The library has definitely been a lot better since he remodel as far as atmosphere but it honestly had a lot to do with Brutha C doing karaoke/djing there on certain nights. He always brings a positive attitude and it changes the vibe in the room from good to really fun, it's contagious. Not to forget the awesome bartenders and the professional cohesiveness of the workers as a team in general. Keep rockin the 1's & 2's Brutha C!!

Stopped here a few years ago on our way back from San Francisco (...to San Diego). I remember driving through this town 'round 10'oclock and thinking about how dead the town was. I mean there was NOBODY on the streets. Looked like a ghost town. The only place that was open was The Library so we gave it a whirl and it wasn't bad. We had a few appetizers they had on special along with some drinks. I think it was karaoke night also. I probably wouldn't stop here again, but it was okay.

    (3)
  • Jen C.

Aye. Had the shittiest experience with the douche bouncer tonight. I was a weekly customer but never again. Money much better spent at slo brew!

  • Amanda H.

They have actually really stepped their game up from how this place was. My friends and I usually don't go not this bar. But one of our friends told us that they remodeled the place, so we had to check it out. The set up is still the same (bar in the middle/back part, DJ still right at the front door, bathrooms in the way back....etc), but the walls are different now. Theres no booth in the front window for dancing... Even the bathroom got a remodel. The music is a little more different too.. Still not a complete fan of this place, but the improvements that they made do make it a bit better!!

    (3)
  • Sean S.

I stopped in to have a beer while we waited for the farmer's market to open it is very grungy feeling, looking, and overall everything. You know it is bad when there isn't even a bathroom door, for room "#2". It honestly doesn't even matter except if you open the actual door to go into the restroom, anybody from the outside could see you doing your "business." Not a site I would like to see much rather any girls standing outside. Probably a good idea to venture to any of the neighboring bars.

    (1)
  • Kris B.

This place is no frills, strong drinks at reasonable prices. Get there early so you can snag one of the few tables, which is great for people watching and having some personal space. The Bacardi girls came by with some Bacardi and coke shots in cute little mugs. The music was loud and the dance floor was packed. It was a great mix of people of all ages. I had some delicious shots - Chocolate Cake and Spiced Apple, and unfortunately, the biggest tequila shot I've ever seen - I think it was 8oz. I had a lot of fun, but will never drink tequila again!

    (3)
  • Mike F.

By far my favorite place to drink in slo. By one get one free drinks 2 nights a week, and karaoke on Wednesdays! Brotha C was the karaoke DJ and he tore it up. Funny guy and so many songs to chose from. I recommend you check it out

  • Katherine C.

I spent a good deal of my summer 2011 here. Yes, it's small. Yes, it's somewhat ghetto. It also gets dirty really fast. Once it's packed, it gets really, really hot. The only windows of the place, the front windows, get so fogged up that you can't even see inside when you're waiting in line. But for reason, this place has its own charm. It was probably one of my favorite places in DT SLO. I always get AMFs here, and they are gross. But honestly, they do the trick. Sometimes they might be a little strong on the tequila side, but I still get them anyway. When I lost my license and some other cards here, I went back a few times, constantly asking for them to check again and again and again to see if anyone turned it in. I never found my stuff, but they were nice. This place will always be memorable for me.

    (4)
  • Candice C.

Well it's a crappy bar but if you catch it on the right night it's a fun time! But if you catch it on a bad night it's really really terrible! On a good night, Djs are great, music is lively and it's jam packed. On a bad night, music is horrible, crowd is sleezy, and there is a cover charge. If you come here for nothing else though, come for their drink specials ! 2 for 1 will start off any good night.

    (3)
  • JoeandKari C.

We stop by this evening, 4/10/2014, during the farmers market event. If you have food allergies as my wife, Kari, does, they have both Chopin and Ciroc non-grain-based vodkas for your enjoyment! We had a wonderful discussion with Ronnie regarding local wineries and restaurants... And went back after our dinner for a nightcap.

    (4)
  • Britt H.

Small dance floor, they played old dance songs.

    (3)
  • Vanessa V.

The new bartender is great - she was truly accomodating by changing the channel for us so we could watch supercross, she had 80s on the stereo... and the drinks were stiff too! Thanks!

  • Tony J.

This is a local dive bar/club. If you are not from around here you will not like this place. I love this place, I come here Tuesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday. Yes I love this place. I might be an alcoholic but I'm a functioning one, so sue me. Tuesday is the best night to come here since it's 2 for 1 until Midnight. This is only on well drinks. No top shelf. On a good night you will get a lot of the prissy cal poly girls, on a bad night you will get the gangster/hipster crowd. Either way this place will keep you guessing. By the way if your a guy and need to take a dump, good luck! There is no bathroom door.

  • Kis S.

I really dislike this bar. The only time I venture in is when my friend really wants to go. On busy nights it's packed to the rim, and you can barely dance or navigate around. I seriously think someone should call the fire marshal on this place. This place is just trashy, and the music sucks in my opinion. Last time I went in, my friends and I were able to grab a booth and have some space to ourselves. Next thing I noticed this group of girls come squeeze right next to us, no problem, it's a bar, everyone is looking for space. But the problem was this one chick had total disregard for personal space, she kept using her body to push into my friend, to get more space. I switched spots with my friend and told the chick that we were sitting here. She flew off the handle, alcohol spewing from her breath, "bitch I work here!" Oh God. She then proceeded to get in my face telling me she would have me thrown out. I told her to do it. She waved her arms around and was screaming, but nothing happened. I was like f#ck this, and grabbed my stuff and left. I really dislike this place, so trashy, trashy people, trashy atmosphere, trashy employees. If you like trash, the Library is the place for you.

    (1)
  • Meg N.

Oh lordy you havn't changed a bit and I love you for that. Stiff drinks, loud music, dark lighting making my look utterly perfect, and a mixed crowd raning from grizzlled old patron to the young 18yr old I have a fake id and you know it because I am still a size zero college student. The bartenders here may have changed but the essence that is the library still has not. Hit this place up on my impromtu personal pub crawl and def decided i needed water after my vodka with soda flavouring (my favvvsss!) This place get hot so quickly so it is def one of my fav bars to hit up in winter when it gets slightly chillier. (not that slo ever actually get cold).

    (5)
  • Chris G.

Don't bother with this place. Haven't even made it in there because the bouncer wouldn't let me in (wouldn't tell me why) but I've heard nothing but negative things from friends. Bar fights, people throwing bottles, rude bouncers, awful DJ's, and disgusting bathrooms. There is absolutely no reason why you shouldn't walk across the street to Frog and Peach or around the corner to SLO Brew.

    (1)
  • Jackie L.

Best hip hop music among the 3-4 bars I hopped around to on a Saturday. The Library is considered the smallest bar compared to Slow Brewery and Mother's Tavern but the music makes up for it. I was also there a bit early in the night so had already left by the time this place really filled up. I didn't try out any of the drinks because I was too busy on the dance floor!

    (4)
  • Case P.

This USED to be my favorite place to go downtown. The music was always on point, the DJs and bartenders were cool, and this was the only place in SLO that brought a diverse crowd. I recently heard that The Library would be playing less Hiphop because they didn't want to draw "that demographic"... Referring to the ten black people in SLO, I suppose. I was at The Library last night for the first time in a while, and they definitely had stopped playing their usual amazing music. They were playing like trance/rave music, and the only people really dancing were these hired girls that came with the DJ. Bad move Library. You're about to lose alot of business. :/

  • Heather R.

I have never written a yelp review before, but this is worthy of my first. I went to the library last night, and I'll admit it was a great time at first. Got some drinks, lots of dancing blah blah blah. But then walking out I went to grab my phone in my purse and it was gone. So I told my friend and she checked her purse and hers was gone also. Oh wait!! Our other friends phone was gone after going to the Library also! So three phone stolen from the same bar one night. I'm not accusing the library to be in on it, but they surely are letting people in who do shady things like that. Ultimately, the Library is not worth it! Don't get your phone stolen...

  • Thor Z.

If you're a loner idiot guy looking to get laid (and totally fail to succeed) THIS IS YOUR PLACE MAN! I swear to god every time I come in here it's the saddest scene possible. Terrible top 40 music. Sound system is poor at best. Usually 1 female to 3-4 guys. Always sleezey looking dudes trying to hit on ANYTHING possible. And don't forget, if you're a TAP OUT BRO this is an awesome and very popular area to start a fight outside of. Don't let anyone insult your lifted truck or poly doly brah.

    (1)
  • Nicola V.

Yes, this place is super ghetto. I advise the girls that come here to NEVER wear open toed shoes...there are always spilt drinks and God know what else on the floors. It's always smelly and the windows are without a doubt fogged up because it's so freaking hot inside. Usually when I tell my friends I'm going to the Library, they are always puzzled and say "Ew, why??" But despite all negative things I just wrote about, I've had some of the best college memories from this place. This bar (to me) by far plays the BEST music to dance to. This is why my roommate and I always went here. Their drinks are super strong and usually twice the size of drinks compared to the other bars nearby. Best thing to do here if you don't like to dance...people watch. The Library attracts the most diverse and interesting group of people in the Central Coast.

  • S M.

The library used to be the funnest place downtown if you didn't want to deal with drunk college kids and dubstep. Yes it's a bit ghetto and sometimes it's packed and hot but the music always made up for it. Not so much anymore. The dj was AWFUL. It felt like he played the top 40 from the early 2000s and nobody was dancing. It felt like we were at a wedding where the dj tries too hard. I also went a few weeks ago and when we asked the dj to play a little bit more YG/2 chainz, his response "We don't play that black shit no more." RIP The Library

This place ABSOLUTELY RUINED my 21st birthday. Huge mistake making it my first stop downtown that night. My birthday was on a Saturday, so I knew it would be packed downtown, but I just wanted to go in to take the Statue of Liberty shot and get out of there. There was a line outside and I was with a group of people but was able to get inside with some friends somehow who were already waiting in line. The douche bag bouncer at the door wouldn't let my boyfriend in to see me take my first legal shot (he didn't have cash and couldn't pay the $3 cover). My parents were also with me and when my Dad tried to argue with the bouncer, he actually laid his hands on my Dad, a sixty-year-old man, and forcibly pushed him out of the way. I vowed never to go there again after that, but I decided to give it a second chance another night because the bouncer (one whom I had never seen before) tried to lure us in by telling us their drinks were 2-for-1, so my boyfriend and I went inside for a drink. There was a $10 minimum for cards, which was fine, so we told the bartender to give us another drink to just set us over the $10 minimum. We FINALLY got our drinks from the bartender and eventually got the check back and it was nearly $20! When we asked him if the drinks were 2-for-1 like the bouncer said they would be, he asked us if we had a "2-for-1 card", and we didn't. The bouncer was supposed to give us a card to give to the bartender but instead had lured us in without giving us the card, causing us to pay for way more drinks than we were prepared to pay for. Bottom line: slimy, rude staff and creepy crowd. AVOID, AVOID, AVOID.

I am shock on what people have to say about this place. The drink specials are amazing, the bartenders are super nice, and the music is on point! The legendary 2 for 1s on Tuesday makes the Library Lounge the hottest place on Tuesday in Downtown SLO, hands down! Sure it is not as big as any of the other bars in SLO but if you see the dynamic in the bar during peak hour you will get amazed on how people still enjoy themselves. Plus they stay open longer then any other bar in SLO. Just by 15 minutes, and that is a lot. As for complaints about loud music, you are in a bar with a dance floor! Do you think they are going to play music just for your hearing pleasure. The music is there to make you dance and if you are complaining about how loud it is, then get some ear plugs! Overall, it is one of the realest bars out here in SLO. The DJ line is great and they will definitely get you moving. The bartenders are amazing and they definitely don't undercut you on drinks. For the complainers out here on yelp, maybe you are expecting too much? Just relax and make the best out of it. I suggest you go back to the Library and check it out once more.

    (5)
  • Megan L.

DO NOT GO HERE! Your phone will be stolen, almost guaranteed. I personally know 7 people who have had their phones stolen out of their purses (while wearing them) along with debit, credit, and ids all within the last 2 weeks. The crowd here is shady, and the staff is rude, I wouldn't be surprised if they were in on the scam.

    (1)
  • Jackie F.

Pro: Special drinks Con: Loud, noisy, watered down, smoky, bad air Under no condition should you come to this place... it's pretty much torture to get in and torture to stay. This place is full of Jersey Shore wannabes and people that dash in to observe the madness. Skip this place.

    (1)
  • Annie P.

This place is kind of a fail. I get the whole, casual/dive feel its trying to convey (or maybe not) but the clientel here is seriously creepy. My friend went to go pee and some dude showed him his weener. Then two other creepy guys came out side were acting really weird and sketchy. The bouncers here need to start bouncing the creeps before all of their decent clients bounce outta here to the next bar.

    (2)
  • Steven P.

The Library has a small dance floor if that's what you want. Good luck finding somebody to dance with though. Small bar.

    (2)
  • Raquel R.

Hells ya I want to dance with that hottie in the window with his belly showing and the drool coming off his chin-- yes this is the typical look of the Library's crowd. Skanky girls and nasty ass boys run to this club because they want to dance in the window so all of DT can come and look at you make a fool out of yourself. Now I regress- I have done the skanky dance in the window so I am making fun of myself, but I have refrained from drooling, and or smacking my own ass, thank you. Now to get past the window: The bar, at its best, is a place to get hit on by scary dudes. The dancefloor, a place to get stared at and groped by scary dudes. The music, bleeding from the ears might be a side-effect. (I like loud music. I do not like shitty speakers with even shittier "mixes" at scream mode.) Unfortunately this is usually the only bar that is packed before 10 pm on the weekends. Oh how I miss your sleazy....

    (1)
  • Raquel S.

Oh The Library. Where to begin? Perhaps the window (which I really hope is sanitized on a daily basis, to prevent the spread of unwanted STI's). JK, i know STI's cannot be transmitted from a window but still, it's pretty gross what some people will do ON that window. This place is pretty grungy and borderline sketchy but so much fun if you've had just the right amount to drink and ready to DANCE :) The restrooms are pretty much despicable, and your shoes WILL stick to the floor no matter where you are, but other than that, it's pretty clean (sarcasm). The DJ seems freakishly old for the crowd, but he's pretty decent. The decor of the place is also odd, tables with color changing lights don't really fit in but hey, they're fun...I guess. On the plus side, if it's Pint Night (Tuesday night), this place rocks: 2 for 1 drink specials until 12:45a, need I say more to college students on a budget?? I would've given this place 4 stars, but this year they started charging a $3 cover to get on on weekends, which is pretty steep for what you're getting (see above).

    (3)
  • Michael K.

First off - all you that hate on this place, move away from SLO. It's a bar in a room. Stiff drinks, great staff - however (and I'm dating myself on this one), the missing Librarian sucks. It's your hole in the wall bar that SLO lost amongst all the trendy changing places in the downtown area. Lots of places got the face lift, but if you want just a bar and only that with great staff and stiff drinks - here ya go.

    (4)
  • G to the M.

The dance floor is too small and the DJs are worse than the drinks. I don't know why they charge a cover. I went there once for my birthday and the doorman wouldn't wave my three dollar cover because my birthday was three days prior to the night we were going out. Youre better off at buffaloes, novo, dt brew or mother's.

    (1)
  • Cindy C.

A-OK for SLO standards. Typical college bar I guess. I've been a few times and there usually isn't a cover (see below). Bar is smaller than others in the area and has a SMALL dance floor with some places to sit and a smoking area in the back. Dark, loud, and crowded, like most other places around. Most recent visit was last week for a friends birthday. After having our fun at DTB, we headed over to the library at around 1am to get a few more drinks before the night ended. We were surprised to be told that there was a $3 cover. We were a fairly decent sized crowd and even explaining that we just wanted to buy some drinks before last call, they still insisted on the cover. Or, the guy said, come back at 1:10 and it will be free. Really? It's already 1. You can't just let us in now? Whatever. 15 minutes later we come back, and guess what, there's still a cover! But oh, it's *only* $1 now. Yes, it's just a buck, but I find it ridiculous that you would 1. flat out lie to your customers like that 2. try to charge cover when you're gonna close in a few minutes After that, I probably wouldn't come here again, unless I was dragged along by my friends.

    (2)
  • Samantha D.

Decent DJ, huuge drinks, weird crowd. Its great as long as you have a good buzz and are ready to dance and ignore the sketchy guys. The drinks are large, and you can get your moneys worth and a good buzz out of a few.

    (3)
  • Charles D.

Awful. Creepy weirdos everywhere. The bartender looks like Ronnie from Jersey Shore. Cameron A.'s post pretty much summed up the vibe.

    (1)
  • Sasha T.

On a chill Monday night, this place wasn't at all seedy. (Maybe you have to come late on a weekend to experience the seediness some of the Yelpers are talking about?) We didn't stick to the floors, the bouncer was friendly, the bartender made a great Cosmo... oh, and it happened to be Trivia Night. My only complaint would be that it would have been nice to hear more music than having to answer trivia questions, but that's probably because I stink at Trivia!

  • Seth M.

While on a recent trip to SLO, my coworker and I made our tour of the local bar scene each night, and just about every night we ended up here at the The Library. It's a decent crowd, especially on Tuesdays when they have the "buy 1 get one free" of anything (except top shelf). We started our debachery here on Sunday night (which, by the way ended with my colleage puking in the back alley), and continued all week. We met some great friends, some beautiful women (and their numbers!), and overall had a great time.

I actually really liked this place. I just came here with a couple friends. We just wanted a couple of drinks. The prices weren't bad at all. I had a good time.

Great bar if you want to have a blast. Great drink specials and awesome bartenders. Ask for Ahri, he makes amazing drinks and is super cool and down to earth. I am a local and this is my favorite donwtown bar.

We may be bias because we have became friends with most of the bartenders but I like the atmosphere. Its not your everyday crowd and the late night DJ rocks!!! Be ready to dance.

  • Brandon L.

This is easily the shadiest bar in SLO along Higuera street. It smells and they have some seriously creepy dudes in there. Avoid when possible.

    (1)
  • Leslie P.

This place is trashy! the only reason my friends and i come here is for 2-for1 drinks on tuesdays! so this place is only good for "pre-partying" before going to other bars on tuesdays.

  • Vareen O.

One of the many places I learned how to drink. Thank you SLO! Great memories here. Very dark, smoking patio, hip hop music. The place is known for that end of the night hook up for those of you looking for that...striking out elsewhere? Try the library. Stiff drinks.

  • Janney B.

I used to use my mom's credit card to buy my college buddies beer at 'the Library.' Mom would get the monthly bill and then gladly pay it, because she assumed that I was buying books at the county library every Friday night. Well-priced drinks, cool owner, and the kind of crowd that will back you up in a bar fight. My book collection never grew, but my group of friends did. :)

  • Emilio P.

Woah..What happened? I think I tripped and fell into a car on my drunk stumble over here. Maybe I was accosted by one of the four transients in downtown SLO. Either way I must've perished and had my beliefs shattered in front of me because this HAS to be Hell... Nope. Its the Library. My bad people..my bad. This is the ultimate for the "Omg-im so drunk- i just wanna dance and spill drinks and scream that every song that comes on is about me-dude bra this place is as good as bong rips with Nati Ice" crowd. Listen, I'm not bad mouthing dancing, I've been known to get my Dishwasher on (washin, washin, rack em to dry, rack em to dry) but this place caters more for finding that person thats juuuust drunk dry hump you for a couple hours and maybe a sloppy make out, and I'm just not havin it. On top of that though, its small, dark, somewhat seedy, and draws a lame crowd. However is not ALL bad. My beer was nice and cold...and umm.. oh the bouncer told me my girlfriend was hot. So umm.. theres that.

  • Tim V.

I went there on my birthday and the bar was just getting packed but it was still pretty cool. I forgot my bartenders name but she was cool we talked for a little bit, she made some good drinks. Overall I had a good time at this establishment. But I lost my iphone there. A couple days later they found it and let me know that they had my phone. That was ace! Don't pass up on this place cause they give your phone back! If you lose it.

    (5)
  • David C.

What can be said, it is like Old Reliable. Always there and you get used to it. Drinks are good, prices are cheap and bartenders are cool. During the early evening it is pretty dead, but after 9pm, it gets packed and jammin. A great place to go when you are in SLO.

WHAT IN THE WORLD IS THAT RACKET??!!! Oh, it's what the DJ is playing and calling "music". I'm low maintenance when it comes to finding a spot to grab drinks, listen to music and shake what my mama gave me...but whatever it was that the DJ at the Library was playing made shaking anything pretty impossible! He'd play a great dance song, but would mix in some techno sound effect that would ruin it. Here's a tip: not every song translates into a techno mix very well! One more tip: if the crowd is dancing, leave it alone! Oh yes, then the DJ's "hype man" would grab the mic and yell "go DJ, that's my DJ...". Grrreat.... Anyway, 2 stars because although the music sucked, I was able to consume some libations and the company I was with made it a fun night.

Wow. This place is trash. I am glad I was not around to see any more of it than I did.

Dis. Gus. Ting. The kind of place you go to and then get checked for diseases just because you were there. They make strong drinks but you cannot make up for the horrible atmosphere. The bathrooms are ones that gas stations would be proud to call their own. I'm relatively certain it hasn't been cleaned one time in the years that I've been going there.

My shoes were sticking to the floor as I attempted to walk from the front door to the bar. Overcome by the effort and fear of falling onto this sticky mess, I decided to turn around and find another place to get drunk. At least a place that if I fell down, I might have a chance of regain an upright stance instead of being mired in who knows what on that floor. Drive Bar Rating ***** **** (see SLO Drive Bar List) Drive Bar Rating Factors: (1 * for each) Small *, dark *, seedy characters on bar stools *, windows and floors could use a wipe *, good drinks *, smart ass folks on both sides of the bar, locals hang out *, clandestine meetings * in the far corners of the lounge or the bathrooms, extra points for smell *, tacky design and poor service *. Hint: Costco and Home Depot both have mops for sale!

Very basic bar, thats almost too loud for its decor (*needs more chill!) - with a couple d-bags running around. They made me a potent martini here, and the drinks are 2 for 1 one Tuesdays, cant complain about that.

Best Bar in Town! Awesome atmosphere, cheap drinks, great dance music and friendly bartenders! And every Monday they host Trivia 8:30pm-10:30pm, they give out awesome prizes and its always a blast!

Surprisingly, I actually enjoy going to The Library. There's nothing too special about this place, drinks are of average bar quality, and it's not entirely disgusting. The selling point is the last couple of times I've visited, the music has been quite good. In between the hip-hop standards that I'm sure the DJ is obligated to play, I heard some Daft Punk and even some Modest Mouse, which wins me over in a downtown area that seems to embrace anything that's in the current top 40. Plus, as small as their dance area is, there always seems to be room, which is good for me... I like to flail.

If you're in SLO and you want to go to a nice lounge with a good DJ and a few coeds, this is the spot. The drinks are strong, and they usually have specials. The DJ starts spinning around 10:30pm, and the party goes strong until closing. They have an outside patio for smokers, but most of the action is inside on the dance floor. I would recommend this to all those who want a crowded party feel.

i was visiting some friends in slo town a few weekends ago and i came in on a friday around 8 and the bartender Ari was pouring scratch made drinks that were fantastic. He made a muddled fresh fruit margarita for my girlfriend and recommended a firestone dba( a great local beer.) The music was a mix of sublime and other reggae which i love. Thanks for showing us a great time Ari.

Lauren the bartender is awesome. If she's working ask for Lauren's Berry Shot haha, it was a special a while ago but she still remembers how to make it. Sad how she recognizes me now, but oh well. I frequent this bar mucho.. No cover (usually), I don't wait too long to get a drink, and no cover. Also if you ask for a drink and they don't know how to make it, sometimes they'll ask around or even call up another bartender buddy to check... It's happened before I swear and I was pretty impressed at the effort.

This bar is one of my favorite places on the planet! It's just a great place for soome no holds bar fun! In my mind this is hands down one of the best bars in SLO town. I understand that it's not for everyone, that very low lighting and extra stong Long Islands aren't every person's forte. But, man if you are a partier/drinker this is the place for you. The dance floor is always packed and it's not too hard to get a drink once you've fought your way to the bar. The only reason I'm not giivng this place 5 stars is becuase of 1) the bouncers are HUGE jerks most of the time (seriously boys, you are working the door in the whitest town in America, you're not that hardcore) and 2) the bathrooms are hardly clean and the stalls never stay shut. Take a buddy girls, that's my only warning. :)

Haven't been to my old favorite college bar in quite some time... used to tell my old gf I was going to "the library"... yeah... lame joke... Does Chuck "The Iceman" Liddell still own this bar? He did when I was there... bet he still does...

MY ABSOLUTE FAVORITE BAR IN ALL OF S.L.O. and seriously, that says A LOT!!!!!!!! The best part about this bar is 2 for 1 tuesdays..order "tall" blueberry stoli tonics..they make em strong and OMG fun will totally ensue. Good music (usually), and you will definitely run into tons of people you know. My friends and I would end up here pretty much everytime we went out. It's one of those places where you sort of b-line to when the alcohol all hits you and all you wanna do is dance on a small dance floor with TONS of people on your same level! AHH i seriously have library withdrawls! BUT don't say you haven't been warned...there are a lot of "sketchy" people here too...

i wish i could give this place a half of a star... bartender had a light light light hand (lame-o!) a vomiting man walked in on me in the bathroom & puked in the sink.... so much for washing my hands DJ stunk worse than the vomit. booooooooo. never let anyone convince you this place is cool. EVER!!!

My friends and I badmouth this place all the time and yet always seem to end up here, drunk and ready to dance the night away on their minuscule dance floor. Not sure why or how. The drink called the JOYgasm rocks my socks off. Once I got caught in the middle of a brawl, had a vodka drink accidentally poured on my face (I'm female and five feet tall-- no one even noticed that I was in the middle of it all), and the manager comped our drinks for the remainder of the night. Health-wise I was over it in thirty seconds, but we were drunk for a lot longer than that!!!!

Well, this is your typical college bar scene: loud, crowded and dark. Drink prices are not that bad, so there are a lot of very inebriated people here. On the plus side, there's usually no cover, unlike Mother's next door. But it is smaller, and there is no dancefloor, so people just get up and dance just about anywhere. Watch out for frat boys (or any boys for that matter) on the prowl. A friend of mine ended up dancing with one of them and he stuck his hand down her skirt. Drink and dance with caution.

It's been a while since I've been here but I remember having fun and enjoying myself unlike this last time. Library used to be chill and fun, and maybe the bouncer should be told this. This time there were two guys standing outside with their black clothes, wannabe Lidelle muscles and a flashlight, then they stared at my ID forever and then wouldn't let my friend in with me because apparently she was too drunk. Clearly someone was on a power trip!

Just like every other bar in SLO except for VERY SMALL and VERY CROWDED. Expect to hear the same music that you would hear at mothers and Downtown Brew. Because of its size, the place is also extremely dirty.

I detest this bar... the people here suck, the floors always hella sticky.. the ONLY positive to this bar is the outback smoking area.

Definately nice about the no cover aspect. Gets crowded real fast and it is a bit snug. Staff is usually pretty cool. Good times.
